WCGU Recognized as it Wisely Moves Forward for a Brighter Future

   

11月24日下午,根据我院建设“广东省本科高校教学质量与教学改革项目试点学院”的工作部署,为了更好地总结近两年来学院建设、办学工作所取得的经验,探讨学院后续发展的方向和思路,我院召开“广东省试点学院建设阶段性成果汇报暨博雅教育研讨会”(以下简称“研讨会”)。来自中山大学、华南理工大学等高校以及我校专家、学者应邀参加会议。

  研讨会由学院院长李毅教授主持,蔡一帆副院长围绕着我院的筹建过程、办学理念和特色、人才培养目标以及近年来的办学实践等内容作主题汇报。报告内容图文并茂、翔实生动,得到了与会校内外专家的一致认可。学校教务处李卓勇副处长还就我院在开展特色课程建设和学分制改革试点等方面的工作作了补充说明。

  在听取了我院代表的工作汇报后,专家组就我院的办学特色和理念、发展方向、学科建设、人才培养过程等方面进行提问。专家组成员、华南理工大学工商管理学院党委书记胡亦武教授介绍了华南理工大学近年来与国外一流大学合作开展人才培养的实践,他认为,广州大学卫斯理安学院特点鲜明,很好地把握了差异化办学的方向,办学模式有创新,建议在师资队伍和课程建设上下功夫,突出内涵建设、为学生提供优质的国际化教育。

  专家组成员、中山大学国际交流处副处长徐瑶副教授介绍了中山大学中法核工程学院和中山大学博雅学院的办学模式,她指出,广州大学卫斯理安学院在国内高校培养国际化女性人才的实践方面作出了先行先试的贡献,在一定程度上对现有中外合作人才培养的模式进行了创新,在特色课程建设、学生管理、跨学科培养等方面做了突破。

专家组成员、广州大学教育学院院长刘晖教授积极评价了学院的办学实践,他从学科建设、师资队伍建设、学院特色精品课程等层面为学院后续的发展提出了建议。刘晖建议学院在深度挖掘“宋氏三姐妹”为代表的中国近代女性教育史实的基础上,深化女性教育的内涵、打造国内女性高等教育的品牌。

专家组组长、中山大学高等教育国际化研究中心主任、国内高等教育研究领域的知名专家陈昌贵教授肯定了我院的办学探索,他指出,广州大学卫斯理安学院的办学实践为探索构建有中国特色的女性文理教育模式作出了有益的尝试。陈昌贵建议,学院在进一步凝练办学理念和明晰办学定位的前提下,结合新形势下我国经济社会发展对于女性高等教育的要求,更好地把人才培养与服务社会结合起来,摸索出一条女性教育和人才培养的可持续发展之路。

通过讨论,专家组成员最后形成了专家评审意见。李毅院长最后对研讨会作了总结,他对专家组针对学院发展给予的宝贵意见表示感谢以及认同,并表示学院将根据专家组的意见以及建设方案开展后续的建设工作,努力把学院建设好,为我校高水平大学建设作出更大的贡献!

On November 24, 2017, a Conference on Reporting Current Results of Developing Pilot Colleges in Guangdong Province and a Seminar on Liberal Arts Education was successfully held by Wesleyan College of Guangzhou University (WCGU). The meeting focused on sharing lessons WCGU has learned in developing our college in the past two years and further exploring our future. Academic experts from Guangzhou University (GU), Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and South China University of Technology (SCUT) participated in the meeting.

The seminar was chaired by Professor Li Yi, Dean of WCGU. Ms. Cai Yifan, the associate dean, delivered a report on the founding, educational philosophy, characteristics of administration, and the objective of talent cultivation at WCGU.

Following the report, a panel of experts asked questions about the characteristics of administration, educational philosophy, future direction, discipline development, and the talent-development process of WCGU. Professor Hu Yiwu, the Secretary of the Party Committee at the School of Business Administration, SCUT, shared cooperation between SCUT and foreign first-class universities on talent cultivation. Professor Hu recognized WCGU for realizing its distinctiveness and the general direction of differentiated education leading to an innovative administration. He suggested efforts be further concentrated on developing teaching staff and curriculum, and providing high quality international education for students.

Associate professor Xu Yao, the deputy director of the Office of International Cooperation, SYSU, introduced the administration of the Sino-French Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology and Liberal Arts College, SYSU. She recognized how WCGU had made pioneering contributions in developing international female talent among domestic universities and colleges which innovates current patterns of Sino-foreign cooperative talent cultivation. She also expressed appreciation with WCGU’s breakthrough in constructing characteristic curriculum, student management, and interdisciplinary talent.

Professor Liu Hui, Dean of the School of Education, GU, also recognized WCGU’s practice of college administration. He proposed some suggestions in regard to further discipline development, teaching staff, and curriculum with WCGU characteristics. He proposed that WCGU deepen the understanding of female education and build itself into the spokesperson for female higher education in China with historical research about female education represented by the Soong Sisters.

Professor Chen Changgui, Director of the SYSU International Research Center of Higher Education and a leading expert in the study of higher education in China, acknowledged WCGU’s exploration of college administration as positive. He recognized WCGU’s beneficial efforts in developing a female liberal arts education with Chinese characteristics. Professor Chen suggested that WCGU, while further refining its educational philosophy and pinpointing its college running orientation, develop talents to serve the society and set a sustainable path combining female education with talent cultivation.

To conclude, Dean Li summarized the seminar. He expressed sincere gratitude to the panel for their valuable suggestions and encouraged colleague to remain committed and untied to work for a brighter future for WCGU.
